My name is Andrés. I live in Medellín, but I was born in the city of Cartagena, Colombia. I'm a mechanical engineer graduated from University of Antioquia (Medellín, Colombia, 2009). I traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to study a Master in Numerical Simulation and Control (2016). At this moment I work as a research assistant at EIA University (Envigado, Colombia) and also as a teacher of technical drawing, euclidean geometry and materials science. Before I was a master student I worked as a project engineer at a Colombian company that belongs to the fire fighting industry. I like anime, working on this site, watching Youtube videos, engineering, but at this moment what I like the most is riding my bicycle!

Now I will list some things that I have done, so you can have a better idea about me. I have worked in some research projects (sorry, titles and other information are in spanish):

  • "Estudio y determinación de las propiedades de combustión del gas natural enriquecido con oxígeno" (GASURE research group, 2008). We studied combustion properties of oxygen enhanced natural gas combustion.
  • "Estudio numérico y experimental para determinar los porcentajes de sustitución de fibras sintéticas por fibras vegetales autóctonas usadas como refuerzo de materiales compuestos empleados en la elaboración de aspas de aerogeneradores de eje vertical" at EIA University, MAPA research group (2014-2015). In this project we determined the amount of synthetic fibers that could be substituted by vegetal fibers to build a vertical axis wind turbine blade and keep the stresses below the safety limit.
  • "Desarrollo de compuestos híbridos reforzados con fibras sintéticas y vegetales utilizando procesos VARTM y embobinado" at EIA University, MAPA research group (2015-2016). In this project we focused our attention on building a filament winding machine and use a resin infusion machine to build the blades of a type H vertical axis wind turbine. We used colombian vegetal fibers as the reinforcement material. We also did some numerical simulation using the finite element method.
  • "Aplicación del proceso VARTM a la fabricación de vigas usando compuestos reforzados con tejidos vegetales mineralizados" at EIA University, MAPA research group (2016-2017). In this project we are working on vegetal fiber treatments to increase reinforcement to matrix adhesion using bio-mineralization on the fibers. Composite materials will be used for civil engineering applications.

Two very important works:

  • Master's thesis: "Frecuencias naturales del elemento de cáscara MITC4 en materiales compuestos" (2016). Translation is more or less: "Natural frequencies of MITC4 shell element in composite materials".
  • Undergraduate thesis: "Evaluación del calentamiento en diferentes zonas de un sistema de combustión sin llama" (2009). Translation: "Heat distribution evaluation at different zones inside a flameless combustion system".

In the past I used to work with software like Fluent, Autocad, Comsol, ADINA, FEMAP with NX Nastran and Solidworks, but now I just use Solid Edge, Inventor, NX (fow FEM simulation) and Matlab on a regular basis. For creating and editing Latex documents I use MikTex.

This is a part of all that I have done the last four or five years, but I think it's enough to know me a little bit.
